I totally agree! I think of that principle a lot. I was reading the parable of the ten virgins this morning, and remembering the song from the seminary video that talks about the "drops" that fill our cruses with oil: "a drop for an act of kindness, a drop for a gift of love ... for every hour of service, for every humble prayer." It's these little things that matter ("by small and simple things"), because that's how we learn -- "line upon line, precept upon precept."

Good job! I gave myself permission to totally fall off the wagon during Thanksgiving and might have gained a couple of pounds back (it's hard to tell on my non-digital scale and erratic weighing patterns). But I started in again this week, too!

Good luck! I'm sure you can do it!

I am making lifestyle changes, too. Nathan had the camera for a lot of our California trip and I realized that the extra 30ish pounds I'm carrying around IS noticeable.

I lost about ten pounds just by changing my eating habits -- no snacking 'cause I'm bored or achy or tired, and no seconds (most of the time). So just portion control, really. The first few days I was starving but now I'm wondering why I thought I needed that much food. (It's kind of hard, I think, to go from pregnancy to eating mostly for just yourself again!)

We bought an elliptical machine and I found I don't completely loathe exercise if I don't think about it too much and just DO it ... also, I have the reward of listening to my favorite podcast while I exercise, which makes it something I (almost) look forward to. The first day was impossible (I did my twenty-minute workout in three wheezing spurts) but I've already seen improvement in just a couple of weeks. Also: that achy, tired feeling that was making me want to eat more? Gone once I started exercising every day. Huh.

I'm glad the post stuck with you. It's been sticking with me, too, I'm pleased to report; even though we went on vacation last week I'm still up-to-date on my scripture reading (I use readthescriptures.com to help with this, even though I prefer reading from my actual book ... I don't get as distracted this way).

I'd be interested in seeing some of your 100 goals (and Julia's, too) if they're not too personal. (Well, more than the three you shared). How do you make 100 goals without feeling overwhelmed?

It's amazing how prophetic counsel is simultaneously simple and profound, isn't it? We make personal finance complex and violate the basic principles through justification. After doing so myself, it's been very refreshing to get back to the basics.

Hi
I stumbled across your blog on LDS BLOGS. I thought you mighe be interested in a site my wife and I just built called MormonsMadeSimple.com, which uses simple, explanatory videos to explain the Mormon faith. Feel free to feature any of these videos on your blog, or just share them with non-member friends. We're hoping these videos will be missionary tools to help members share their beliefs. Anyway, sorry to spam your comments section. I couldn't find any contact information for you on your blog.
